The Arundel Varsity wrestling team showed the evidence that persistence and hard work produce in their first action of the new year. Of the 12 matches that were wrestled, Arundel came out on top in 9 of them. A solid effort all around, even in the 3 matches they dropped, not to give up team score bonus points.
Ryan Quilban (106), Jaydon Bowden (160), Vinnie Aurigemma (170) and Devon Thompson (182) all recorded pins. Ryan Quinn (113), Aaron Shingler (120), Adam Lake (126), Caleb Chaves (132) and Amir Conwell (Hvywt) all out-wrestled their opponents and earned wins with decisions (win by points). Perhaps the most impressive two matches for Arundel came at 126 & 132. Freshman Adam Lake turned in a strong effort to defeat a weathered & talented senior veteran wrestler for Annapolis in Tate Scott,. Lake got the first take-down and never trailed in the match to go on to a 13-9 victory. The very next match, Caleb Chaves rose to the challenge against Nate Ditmars, taking a 7-2 decision. Chaves also got the first take-down and never trailed in the match. Ditmars is currently the #19 ranked wrestler in the state at 132.
The Arundel varsity squad will be looking to make some noise at the Hammond Invitational this coming Friday and Saturday.
