Southern jumped out ahead in the top of the first scoring a lead off walk on a sacrifice bunt and stringing some singles and another walk together to give them three runs but freshman pitcher Kathryn Wisor found her grove and struck out the final two batters to get out of the inning.
The Wildcats answered with three more runs of their own when Skylar Morley led the inning off with a walk, Samantha Cinotti singled and Kaitlyn Penny scored both on a 1-1 count double. Gretchen Yanss then scored Penny on a ground out.
Wisor struck out the side in the top of the second and the Wildcats offense responded in kind scoring 8 runs and batting through the lineup. Morley singled, Madison Gentry hit a two rbi double, Miller hit a one rbi double and Sierra Williams hit a one rbi single. Morley hit a two rbi double in her second at bat of the inning.
Wisor walked the lead off batter in the top of the third but Cinotti threw her out at second on a steal attempt. One more batter reached on a soft single, but a Wisor induced a ground out to herself and a strikeout.
The Wildcats scored four more runs when Penny walked, stole second and eventually scored on a passed ball. Savannah Brooks singled to setup Maidson Miller’s two rbi home run.
Yanss came in to close the game striking out the side in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats added three more insurance runs when Morley walked, stole second and Penny sacrifice bunted her home.
