Arundel High School
The JV Wildcats took over the lead in the bottom of the third against the Lady Patriots, with a 2 out rally and never looked back.
The Arundel Wildcats and Old Mill Patriots competed in a 5 inning game in a “Strike Out Hunger” game, where both collected donated food and other supplies to benefit Sarah’s House.
Emily Shaeffer took the mound for the Wildcats. Shaeffer pitched all 5 innings giving up 7 hits. Shaeffer also contributed offensively going 2 for 3 at the plate with singles and 3 RBIs.
The Patriots took an early lead scoring 2 in the first inning. The Wildcats defense held them to only those two runs. Annah Krol was involved in 5 plays to help the Wildcats defense including a double play, caught fly on the grass line and throw to home to prevent the Patriot runner from stealing home. Natalie Adams also had a stellar play, receiving the ball from shortstop after a bobble and recognizing the runner from second trying to advance. Adams threw to Khlalea Warner who tagged the runner for the third out of the inning.
In the third inning, Krol was lead off hitter but grounded out to shortstop. Mariah Melendez started the scoring for the Wildcats with a walk. Warner advanced Melendez, but was out at first. 2 outs. Skylar Morley started a 2 out rally with a walk. During Morley’s bat, Melendez scored stealing third and home on wild pitches. Sammy King then doubled. Morley at third, King at second. Shaeffer hit for a 2 RBI single. Adams was then granted first base with a hit by pitch. Abby Reiser then sac bunted but an overthrow at first allowed Shaeffer and Adams to score and Reiser to be safe at first. A 2 out rally… 5 runs scored.
The fourth and fifth innings brought 5 and 2 more runs in respectively, including home being stolen by Krol and Melendez.
